Yesterday I noticed a new dog across the street. They are having their house painted and so I guessed that the dog belonged to one of the painters that was working to prep the house for painting.
I crossed the street to see if I could meet the dog and asked who it belonged to.
She was a happy dog that tried to greet everyone and was very curious about all the activity going on there. Imagine my surprise when everyone thought that she belonged to someone else!
I thought she belonged to the painters.
The painters thought that she belonged to my neighbor.
My neighbor thought she belonged to me!
Well, she came when called, so I decided to try and find her home and return her to her people. I was on my way to the store, so I put her in my van with my Irish Wolfhouds, Meghan and Millie. Everybody was excited to the other. In fact they were so excited, I decided to leave my girls home. (They did not like that at all!)
When I returned home Meghan and Millie were whining at the picture window waiting for me to hurry up and get home. I found a spare leash and leashed them all up and the four of us went door-to-door asking if anyone recognized the lost dog.
Three streets later I found someone that thought they recognized her and pointed to the houses at the very top of the hill. ”I think she belongs to a bald guy that lives up there.”, she said. After some huffing and puffing on my part we made it to the top of the hill and found the owner. He was shocked that the lost dog was missing and started to tell me the story of how his Golden Retriever died and he couldn’t bare to get another dog for a while. His son moved home and brought four dogs with him and this was one of them.
As it turns out, her name is Tayler and he is looking for a good home for her.
My wife says we have enough dogs. (Meghan and Millie are giant Irish Wolfhounds and look more like small ponies.) I love dogs and wonder if there is room for one more.
What do you think?
Should I offer to take Taylor for a walk with my hounds? Or is that pushing things a bit too far?

As a dog lover, I say take the dog for a walk. Although you run the risk of falling in love with the dog, I bet the dog would take great pleasure in the company of you and your dogs. Who knows, maybe someone you meet while walking the dog will fall in love with her and want to become her owner.
One person pointed out to me after finding out I had recently had to put my dogs down due to their ongoing medical issues that just tipped that scale too high for my budget that Dog is God spelled backwards. It is interesting how a dog’s unconditional love comes very close in parallel to God’s unconditional love for us.
Blessings on you, and all the dogs!
